The first edition of the "Mi cultura típica" contest awarded new merengue talents and honored legends of the genre.
My beautiful people of Bochinche Latino, local music is celebrating because the Dominican Society of Music Authors, Composers and Publishers celebrated in grand style the grand final of their "Mi cultura típica" contest. This initiative seeks to boost creativity and fill the Dominican typical merengue repertoire with new music. First place went to Johanny Antonio Santos with the song "Coge tu cartera y vete", followed by Enrique Feliz in second place with "Perico ripiao", and Raúl Román taking third place with "Merengue ripiao". During the gala, the institution also paid a well-deserved tribute to the legendary Fefita la Grande and other great figures of this much-loved genre. Kinito Méndez, president of Sgacedom, expressed his great satisfaction with the successful reception of this first edition, highlighting that the main objective is to motivate national music production and keep our cultural identity very much alive.
